VolkerStevin and CH2M joint venture C2V+ has completed United Utilities’ only Bathing Water Directive output for the last financial year.
The business has been working on the project at Allonby village since May 2015 and works have just been completed. The £4.5 million scheme is to help improve bathing waters at Allonby, on Cumbria’s Solway coastline.
Framework director for C2V+, Darren Hynes, said:
“We’re delighted to have finished this project, particularly as it is our client’s only completed output in the last financial year.
“The works will reduce spills of untreated sewage and improve the quality of the treated wastewater which is returned to the sea. Previously, the Environment Agency rated the bathing water around Allonby as poor so this will be a fantastic improvement for the community.”
The scope of the contract included installation of a 212m sewer pipe, a new inlet screen, additional septic and humus tanks, and a new buried storage tank which is capable of holding 4,000 baths full of waste water.
It also included an upgraded UV plant to accommodate increased flows (from 5.2 l/s to 10 l/s), a FtFT inlet pumping station providing additional pre-treatment storage, a tidal pumping station replacing the existing gravity system increasing the flow capacity to outfall, pipelines and ancillary structures.
C2V+ was brought together to work on the AMP 6 contract for client United Utilities.The joint venture is one of four Construction Delivery Partners (CDP) for the contract which is a design and construct framework for the AMP6 capital investment period and covers the full spectrum of works for both water and waste water across North West England.
